A transparent account of what publishing costs, and how those costs relate to editorial decisions.
How journals are funded
e-IPH's conference-linked journals (including E-BPJ) are funded primarily through Conference Registration and Publication Fees, paid by presenting authors as part of the associated conference; standalone journals (such as ajE-Bs) charge an Article Processing Charge instead — for example, ajE-Bs currently states a fee of USD 300.
What the fee covers
Fees cover manuscript processing, copyediting, typesetting, DOI registration, hosting, and long-term preservation of the published article.
When payment is due
Payment timing depends on the journal's format. Conference-linked journals (E-BPJ): three sequential, non-refundable payments — an Abstract Submission Fee at initial upload, a Conference Registration Fee before peer review begins, and a Publication Fee (APC) after acceptance. Standalone APC journals (e.g. ajE-Bs): a single Article Processing Charge, due after acceptance. Exact tiers and timing for each conference are published in that conference's own Call for Papers.
Editorial independence from payment
Payment of any fee does not influence editorial acceptance. Editorial decisions are made solely on the basis of peer review and editorial assessment of scholarly merit, entirely separate from the journal's finance/production process.
