AI Use Policy
How generative AI may and may not be used by authors, reviewers, and editors.
Authors
Authors who use generative AI tools — for example to assist with data analysis, images or drafting — must disclose it in a short AI Disclosure Statement, naming the tool and describing what it was used for, placed just before the reference list. If no AI was used, the statement should say so. AI tools can never be listed as an author, and authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy and originality of all content, including anything produced with AI. Authors must not upload confidential manuscripts, personal data or unpublished data to AI tools without authorisation. Undisclosed AI use may result in rejection or, after publication, correction or retraction, depending on its seriousness.
Reviewers
Reviewers must not upload manuscripts or any part of their content to generative AI tools, as this may breach the confidentiality of unpublished work.
Editors
Editorial decisions are made by human editors. AI tools may assist with administrative tasks but are not used to make or substitute for editorial judgement.
